Chiefs Star Shares Awe for Patrick Mahomes After One Year in Missouri
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy expressed awe for Patrick Mahomes’ work ethic, sources told ESPN. The wide receiver marveled at his quarterback’s dedication during his first year in Kansas City.
Worthy said, “Mahomes is always the first at GEHA Field. Morning workouts start at 9 a.m. I’d arrive at 8, and Mahomes’s already there. One day, I got in at 7:30—still there. So, I thought, ‘I’ll outdo him.’ Showed up at 6 one morning, and guess what? Mahomes was already grinding.”
The 2024 first-round pick, drafted 28th overall, caught 42 passes for 558 yards in his debut season. Worthy credits Mahomes’ leadership for his growth, per a team source.
Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, led Kansas City to Super Bowl LIX, falling 40-22 to Philadelphia. His relentless preparation sets the tone, Worthy noted in a recent interview.
