Former Star Packers Free Agent Struggles to Find New Team, Eyes Reunion

Rasul Douglas: The Unexpected Hero of the Gridiron

April 14, 2025

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Rasul Douglas, once a cornerstone of the Green Bay Packers’ secondary, is hitting roadblocks in free agency. The former star cornerback, a free agent after his 2024 stint with the Buffalo Bills, has drawn scant interest league-wide and now pines for a Lambeau Field reunion, sources told Yahoo Sports Monday.

Douglas, 30, was a Packers fan favorite from 2021-2023, snagging 10 interceptions and 32 pass deflections in 36 games. His pick-six against the Rams in 2021 and clutch plays in a 9-8 season cemented his legacy. Traded to the Bills mid-2023 for a fifth-round pick, he added 4 interceptions in 2023 but faded in 2024—58 tackles, no picks across 17 games.

“I miss Green Bay—it’s home,” he told reporters. “I’d love to play for Brian again.”

The cornerback’s $7 million annual market value hasn’t sparked offers from contenders like the Steelers or Chiefs, leaving him in limbo as the NFL Draft nears. At 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, his size and ball skills still tantalize, but age and a dip in speed have cooled interest.

In 2024, Douglas struggled in Buffalo. Playing mostly slot, he allowed a 102.3 passer rating, far from his 2021 lockdown form. Green Bay’s secondary, led by Jaire Alexander and Nate Hobbs, needs depth after Eric Stokes’ exit to the Raiders. A reunion could fit, with $47 million in cap space at hand.

“Rasul was a beast—bring him back!” one fan posted online. “He’s washed—stick with Hobbs,” another countered.

Douglas’ Packers peak came in 2022—99 tackles, 4 interceptions—but his Bills fade raises doubts. A prove-it deal might tempt GM Brian Gutekunst, who drafted Emeka Egbuka at No. 23, but youth is the priority.

“I know I’ve got more,” Douglas said.

A return isn’t guaranteed. The Packers lean toward draft prospects like Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison over veterans. Douglas’ heart pulls him to Green Bay, but will Titletown roll out the welcome mat?
