Lions’ $86M Superstar Vows to Retire in Detroit, Chase Super Bowl LX for the City He Loves

Kerby Joseph firmly in the top 10 in these NFL safety rankings

Detroit, MI – June 28, 2025

The Lions’ star safety signed an $86 million extension, vowing to retire in Detroit. His team-friendly deal and fierce loyalty signal a championship chase for the city he calls home.

Kerby Joseph told Lions Den Podcast: “I could’ve chased a bigger contract somewhere else, but I chose loyalty over money. Detroit gave me my shot — they believed in me when no one else did, and I want to give everything I have in return. And now I want to help bring this city its first Super Bowl. This team, this fanbase — this is my legacy.”

The 24-year-old, drafted in 2022, led the NFL with nine interceptions in 2024, earning All-Pro honors. His 17 career interceptions anchor Detroit’s secondary, per Pro-Football-Reference.

Joseph’s four-year, $86 million deal, with $36 million guaranteed, is a bargain, per ESPN. Low guarantees—$1.26 million in 2027—offer Lions cap flexibility, per Spotrac.

His 91.0 PFF grade in 2024 showcases elite play. Joseph’s bone-jarring hits and leadership pair with Brian Branch, fortifying a defense ranked 19th in 2024, per NFL.com.

Dan Campbell’s gritty culture fuels Joseph’s devotion. “Detroit’s my home,” he told MLive, contrasting offers from teams like the Colts. His bond drives Lions Pride.

With $42.36 million in cap space, Brad Holmes secures stars like Aidan Hutchinson. Joseph’s deal ensures roster depth for Super Bowl LX, per The Athletic.

As training camp nears, Joseph’s vow to deliver Detroit’s first title electrifies Motown. Can he cement his legacy? Follow ESPN for updates on this passionate journey.
