The Buffalo Bills’ secondary still has a glaring hole, and a veteran Las Vegas Raiders cornerback could be the answer. With Rasul Douglas unsigned and Dane Jackson shaky opposite Christian Benford, a new name has surfaced as a potential fix.
Reports suggest the Raiders are shopping Jack Jones, with a trade deadline looming Monday—if no deal sticks, they’ll cut him loose. Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal broke the news, and it’s got Bills GM Brandon Beane’s phone buzzing.
Jones, a 2022 fourth-round pick by the Patriots, dazzled in 2023 with the Raiders—56.3% completion rate allowed, 63.0 passer rating against in seven games (NFL.com). His $3.4 million salary for 2025 makes him a low-risk swing (Spotrac).
But 2024 was a stumble—62.8% completion, 98.5 passer rating, a benching for effort, and whispers of attitude issues from his New England days. Still, his coverage stats outshine Douglas and Jackson, per PFF.com.
With just $4.45 million in cap space, Beane could snag Jones via trade—think a Day 3 pick—or wait for a free-agent steal. It’s a no-brainer upgrade for a Bills secondary craving depth behind Benford’s $76 million extension (Spotrac).
If Jones flops, cutting him is painless—his deal runs through 2025. If he clicks, the 27-year-old could lock down CB2 and earn a longer stay by 2026. Genius? Maybe, if effort aligns with talent.
The clock’s ticking—cornerback-hungry teams could swoop in. Buffalo’s draft stash tempts Beane to wait, but Jones’ upside screams action now, not later.
Bills fans know the stakes—a fortified secondary could be the edge against the Chiefs in January (ESPN). Jones might just be the savvy fix Beane needs to keep Buffalo’s Super Bowl window wide open.
