Carson Wentz, now a backup for the Kansas City Chiefs, reflected on his pivotal role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LII victory during a recent interview at Super Bowl LIX media week.

Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, was the Eagles’ starting quarterback in 2017, leading them to a 13-3 regular season before a torn ACL in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams ended his campaign.

Despite his absence, Wentz’s impact on the Eagles’ offense was undeniable, as he threw for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions with a 101.9 passer rating, setting a franchise record for TD passes in a season.

His dual-threat ability—294 rushing yards and a knack for extending plays—helped the Eagles rank third in the NFL with 457 points, laying the foundation for Nick Foles to step in and lead the team to a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Wentz, who remained a vocal leader on the sideline during the playoffs, shared, “I poured everything into that season—seeing the guys finish it in Super Bowl LII was incredible. I knew our offense could do it.” His leadership helped Foles throw for 373 yards and 3 TDs in the Super Bowl, earning MVP honors.

Eagles fans on X still credit Wentz’s contributions: “Wentz set the tone for Super Bowl LII—those 33 TDs were clutch!” (@EaglesNation). While Wentz’s tenure ended with a 2021 trade to the Colts, his legacy as a key architect of the Eagles’ first Super Bowl title endures.
