Eagles Trade Star Bust Edge Rusher to Atlanta Falcons to Nab Higher Pick from No. 32

Bryce Huff has an underdog story built for Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – April 13, 2025, 07:38 PM PDT

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded edge rusher Bryce Huff to the Atlanta Falcons, aiming to secure a higher draft pick than their current No. 32 slot.

Huff, signed to a three-year, $51 million deal in 2024, was a major disappointment, recording just 2.5 sacks in 12 games and missing Super Bowl LIX as a healthy scratch.

The Falcons, desperate for pass-rush help after ranking 25th in pressure rate last season, agreed to take on Huff’s $7.5 million 2025 cap hit, per Spotrac [Web ID: 12].

In return, the Eagles received the Falcons’ No. 29 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, moving up three spots, plus a 2026 fifth-round pick.

GM Howie Roseman, known for bold trades, saw an opportunity to offload Huff, whose fit in Vic Fangio’s system was poor, and gain draft capital to address needs at cornerback or safety.

Eagles' Bryce Huff could be nearing a return from injury

The trade aligns with the Eagles’ strategy to shed high-cost veterans, having already moved C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Kenny Pickett, while preparing for extensions for Jalen Carter and Quinyon Mitchell.

Atlanta, under new defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich—who coached Huff during his 10-sack 2023 season with the Jets—believes they can revive the 27-year-old’s career.

With the No. 29 pick, the Eagles now have a better chance to draft a top prospect like Georgia safety Malaki Starks, previously projected to go earlier.
