Superstar OT Mike McGlinchey Eyes Hometown Return to Join Eagles

Philadelphia, PA - April 20, 2025 - Denver Broncos offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, a Philadelphia native and one of the NFL’s premier linemen, has expressed a desire to return to his hometown by joining the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 2018 first-round pick, currently in the third year of a five-year, $87.5 million contract, aims to bolster the Eagles’ offensive line as they chase a second consecutive Super Bowl title.

McGlinchey, born in Philadelphia and a graduate of William Penn Charter School, grew up rooting for the Eagles. “Philly’s home,” he said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Playing for the Eagles, protecting Jalen Hurts, and winning in front of my family would be a dream.” The 30-year-old right tackle, a standout at Notre Dame, has started 98 games since being drafted ninth overall by the San Francisco 49ers, earning a reputation for durability and run-blocking prowess.

In 2024, McGlinchey anchored Denver’s line, allowing five sacks across 17 starts with a PFF pass-blocking grade of 72.4. His run-blocking grade of 78.9 ranked among the top 15 tackles, ideal for supporting Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 2,005 yards last season. With Mekhi Becton now with the Chargers and Lane Johnson, 34, battling injuries (missing 2-3 games annually), McGlinchey could fortify Philadelphia’s line alongside Jordan Mailata.

The Eagles, holding $60 million in 2025 cap space, face a challenge with McGlinchey’s $17.5 million cap hit. A trade with Denver, potentially involving a 2025 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2026 pick, is feasible, especially as the Broncos rebuild around rookie QB Bo Nix. GM Howie Roseman, known for bold moves like acquiring Travon Walker, could restructure McGlinchey’s deal to fit the cap.

Coach Nick Sirianni praised McGlinchey’s fit: “He’s a Philly guy with grit and skill. That’s our DNA.” The move would also address depth concerns, with Fred Johnson’s departure to Jacksonville exposing vulnerabilities.
