Steelers trade proposal replaces George Pickens with Cowboys $8 million young receiver

Jonathan Mingo ready to prove himself in 'fresh start'

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now in desperate need of a wide receiver, as the team recently traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys and doesn't have another capable player to pair with DK Metcalf.

The free agency market is still filled with a few potential difference-makers at the position, but Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios believes Pittsburgh should call Dallas again and trade for embattled wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.

"After trading away George Pickens, the Cowboys could do the Steelers a favor and send Mingo in a possible trade if Dallas is desperate to get rid of him. Mingo could possibly rejuvenate in Pittsburgh," Palacios wrote.

Mingo was a high-potential prospect coming out of Ole Miss, but the young receiver hasn't lived up to expectations. He was traded to the Cowboys from the Carolina Panthers during last year's deadline and struggled to find a role in Dallas' offense.

The 24-year-old's most productive season came during his rookie campaign in 2023, when he tallied 43 receptions for 418 yards. He failed to reach 200 yards last season.

Though Mingo has been underwhelming to start his career, Pittsburgh should look to take a chance on him. The 2023 second-round pick shouldn't be expensive to acquire in a trade, and playing in Arthur Smith's offense could finally unlock his game. Additionally, Mingo is on a cheap deal, and there's basically zero risk in adding him to the roster.

The Steelers need as much help as possible at receiver. Mingo isn't capable of being a No.2 receiver on a playoff contender, but he's young and still has some potential, so why not take a flyer on him?
