In the world of football, roster changes are par for the course, and the Philadelphia Eagles made a strategic move during the last day of rookie minicamp. The buzz is all about the Eagles’ decision to waive running back Tyrion Davis-Price and welcome rookie wide receiver Giles Jackson to their fold.
This development isn’t overly surprising, given the Eagles’ recent additions of two undrafted free agent running backs—Montrell Johnson and Shunderrick Powell—soon after the draft. Such moves are common as teams continuously tweak their rosters to find the right mix of talent.
Giles Jackson’s arrival is no huge shock either. Just this week, the University of Washington had already let the cat out of the bag about Jackson joining the Eagles.
Even though he wasn’t initially on the list when the Eagles introduced their undrafted free agent class, his skills immediately caught their attention. Jackson’s performance with the Huskies in 2024 has set the stage for him to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster this summer, and he’s already turning heads.
As for Tyrion Davis-Price, his journey with the Eagles has been a rollercoaster. Originally brought to Philadelphia on a reserve/future contract in January 2024, following a stint with the San Francisco 49ers, Davis-Price faced the challenge of breaking into the main lineup.
Despite a solid effort at training camp last year, the 24-year-old found himself on the practice squad, which didn’t stop him from being elevated to the active roster for a blowout game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. During that matchup, he managed seven rushing yards on three carries—a brief but significant appearance.
Fast forward to February, and Davis-Price was back on a future/reserve deal, hot on the heels of the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. However, with the NFL landscape constantly evolving and teams being eager to evaluate their undrafted free agents and tryout players, Davis-Price now faces the challenge of finding a new home in the league.
As the undrafted players strive to prove themselves and make their mark in the NFL, Davis-Price must navigate a competitive environment to secure a workout with another team. It’s these kinds of shifts that keep the offseason intriguing, as teams like the Eagles strive to assemble the perfect roster mix.
