Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley showed humility when asked to compare himself to Detroit Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs as the better No. 26.
During a press conference after a recent practice, Barkley was questioned about who reigns supreme as the top running back wearing the iconic No. 26 jersey.
“It’s tough to compare two players at the same position who are both among the best on their teams. I think we’re both great and give our all for our teams—I respect Jahmyr’s game a lot,” Barkley responded thoughtfully.
His modest answer highlighted his focus on team success over individual accolades, a trait admired since his 2024 Super Bowl LIX performance.
Barkley, who rushed for 2,504 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024, has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ offense since joining from the Giants in 2023.
Gibbs, also wearing No. 26, had a stellar 2024 with the Lions, recording 1,342 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl nod.
The comparison has sparked debate, but Barkley’s humility underscores the mutual respect between the two dynamic, dual-threat running backs.
Their No. 26 matchup will be a key storyline when the Eagles face the Lions in the 2025 season, promising an exciting clash of talent.
