GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers have snagged a gem, signing undrafted free agent Tyler Cooper, a guard/center from Minnesota, sources told ESPN Saturday. The Wisconsin native could emerge as the heir to Josh Myers’ center role.

Cooper, 24, went undrafted despite a stellar Gophers career, starting three years at guard and center. His 6-foot-3, 310-pound frame and 5.1-second 40-yard dash fit Matt LaFleur’s run-heavy scheme, boasting an 80.2 PFF run-blocking grade (PFF).

Myers, a 2021 second-rounder, signed with the Jets in March, leaving a void at center. Elgton Jenkins’ shift to the pivot and Aaron Banks’ $77 million deal stabilize the line, but depth remains thin (Spotrac).

“Cooper’s a local talent with upside,” GM Brian Gutekunst said. The Packers’ 2025 draft added tackle Anthony Belton and guard John Williams, but Cooper’s versatility as a guard/center makes him a long-term prospect (NFL.com).

Tyler Cooper, Minnesota, Offensive Line

Green Bay’s offensive line, pivotal to Josh Jacobs’ 1,329 yards, needs reserves. Cooper’s Minnesota tape shows quick feet and run-blocking tenacity, ideal for LaFleur’s inside-zone plays. His center snaps in 2023 draw Myers comparisons (Packers Wire).

Cooper’s $1 million deal, with $50,000 guaranteed, aligns with the Packers’ $47 million cap space. “I’m home,” the Saint Croix Falls native told reporters. His Big Ten pedigree fuels hope for a roster spot, echoing Yosh Nijman’s UDFA rise (Over The Cap).

The 11-6 Packers, stung by a wild-card loss, prioritize youth post-draft. Cooper joins Matthew Golden’s receiving corps, but his center potential could anchor the line long-term, especially with Jenkins’ $17 million cap hit (The Athletic).

As rookie minicamp looms, Cooper’s signing electrifies Titletown. Can this local product seize Myers’ throne and bolster Green Bay’s Super Bowl chase? His grit and versatility signal a bright future at Lambeau in 2025.
