Kincaid’s 4th-and-5 Drop Voted Bills’ Most Heartbreaking Miss of 2024 Season

Bills' Dalton Kincaid Opens Up About Brutal Dropped Pass on Final Play vs. Chiefs

Buffalo, NY – May 16, 2025

A pivotal moment from the Buffalo Bills’ 2024 season has been voted the most heartbreaking miss of the year, sources told ESPN. Tight end Dalton Kincaid’s dropped pass on 4th and 5 in the AFC Championship against the Chiefs sealed a 32-29 loss, costing Buffalo a Super Bowl shot.

With 3:33 remaining, the Bills trailed by three. Josh Allen delivered a perfect pass to Kincaid on 4th and 5, but the second-year tight end couldn’t secure the ball, ending a crucial drive. Had he caught it, Buffalo could have tied or taken the lead, potentially facing the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

The play, which handed the Chiefs a 32-29 victory, became a defining image of the Bills’ season. Kansas City advanced, only to lose 40-22 to Philadelphia in the Super Bowl. For Bills Mafia, the drop symbolized another missed chance at the franchise’s first championship.

"That drop broke our hearts,” said fan advocate Del Reid of 26 Shirts. "We were so close to the Super Bowl—it could’ve been our year."

Kincaid, who had 315 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2024, struggled with consistency all season. Expected to be a key weapon in the “Everybody Eats” offense, his drop on the biggest stage drew scrutiny, despite a solid 29-catch campaign across 15 games.

The Bills’ offense, led by Allen’s 4,306-yard MVP season and James Cook’s 1,086-yard rushing, was potent but lacked a true WR1 after losing Stefon Diggs. Kincaid’s miscue highlighted the team’s reliance on young playmakers in high-stakes moments, fueling offseason changes.

"We’ve learned from 2024,” said Brandon Beane. "That moment drives us to be better—we’re all in for 2025."

As the Bills prepare for a 2025 home clash with the Chiefs, Kincaid’s drop remains a painful memory. Yet, with veterans like Jordan Poyer returning and a Wall of Fame induction for Kyle Williams, Buffalo hopes to channel last year’s heartbreak into a Super Bowl run.
