The Buffalo Bills entered the 2025 NFL offseason coming off yet another heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. While the Bills approached the offseason in free agency so far with keeping their talent on the team by giving Josh Allen, Greg Rousseau, Khalil Shakir, and Christian Benford extensions, there is one key player up for one that hasn’t received it yet. That player is James Cook.
Cook has been vocal on social media with the type of contract he is looking for, which could’ve led to Brandon Beane being more reluctant to pay cook. Either way, the two sides are apart from reaching an agreement, and they could end up losing Cook in free agency. With the uncertainty around the running back spot, it is something that Buffalo needs to figure out, and they could too to trade for a player to help provide a boost to the position. For the Bills, and ideal player to trade for is current Seattle Seahawks running back, Kenneth Walker.
The Buffalo Bills Will Trade for Kenneth Walker
To avoid the James Cook saga going on any further and disrupting the culture of the Buffalo Bills, they must look to get another running back that can be the future of the room this season. With Kenneth Walker, his physical rushing style would provide something the Bills need out of the backfield. This style would also pair well with Josh Allen’s rushing ability as it would provide the element of the Bills just wearing down in defenses through the run game to open up the passing game even more.
Walker has struggled to stay healthy, and just missed six games last season. He is also set to be a free agent in 2026, but won’t command as large of a contract like James Cook is looking for, which helps the Bills extend their Super Bowl window.
For at least 2025, a duo of Cook and Walker for the Bills would create an ideal backfield pairing to go all-in on winning the Super Bowl this season. Kenneth Walker’s 2,586 yards and 25 touchdowns he has accumulated over 615 would provide a stable presence on the ground. While it’s not on the same level as Cook, it is close enough to where there wouldn’t be much of a drop off from the talent standpoint.
For the Seattle Seahawks, trading away Kenneth Walker would hurt, but they also are looking for more draft capital and have another running back in Zach Charbonnet who can take the starting role, and move Kenny McIntosh to the backup role.
