Chiefs: Kadarius Toney, L'Jarius Sneed expected to play vs. Lions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former Chiefs first-round pick squashed retirement rumors, eyeing a return to Kansas City to chase more Super Bowl glory, sources told ESPN, reigniting Chiefs Kingdom’s hopes.

Kadarius Toney said, “Chiefs is where I started my career and won so much glory. I can still perform at a high level for years, and I’m confident I’ll win more Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs.”

The 26-year-old, drafted 20th by the Giants in 2021, joined Chiefs’ minicamp tryouts, per NFL.com. His 82 catches, 760 yards, and two Super Bowl rings spark potential, per Pro-Football-Reference.

Toney’s 2024 stint with Cleveland yielded 14 catches for 98 yards. Cut in December, he seeks a Chiefs comeback, competing with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, per Arrowhead Pride.

His rookie year—39 catches, 420 yards—shows promise. Chiefs’ $11.2 million cap space allows a low-cost deal, per Spotrac, post-Super Bowl LIX’s 40-22 loss.

At minicamp, Toney mentored rookie Jalen Royals, earning admiration. “Kadarius inspires us,” Royals said, per Chiefs.com, boosting Chiefs Kingdom’s excitement for his potential return.

GM Brett Veach praised Toney’s dynamism: “He’s still electric,” per The Kansas City Star. Training camp will test his fit against rookies like Brashard Smith.
