Santa Clara, CA – June 28, 2025
A former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick is seeking a return to the team that drafted him, aiming to redeem his career after a turbulent offseason. His bold vow has sparked buzz among the Faithful.
Jimmie Ward, 33, was released from jail in June 2025 after posting $30,000 bail for a felony assault family violence charge, per ABC News. Now a free agent, he spoke on the Faithful Podcast: “My biggest regret over seven years in San Francisco is not being able to help the 49ers win a Super Bowl. But I’m still here, still at my peak, and I believe I can help the team I love finally bring home that Super Bowl after 30 years of waiting.”
Drafted 30th overall in 2014, Ward played 76 games for the 49ers, recording 238 tackles and 5 interceptions, per Pro-Football-Reference. His nickel back role bolstered the 2019 Super Bowl LIV run.
Ward’s arrest in Magnolia, Texas, after allegedly assaulting his fiancée, stalled his market, per ESPN. Yet, his familiarity with Robert Saleh’s system makes him a fit for a secondary needing depth after losing Talanoa Hufanga.
With $46.57 million in cap space, GM John Lynch could sign Ward for $1.5 million, per Spotrac. Fans on X, like @Ninerz_Nation, rally for his return: “Give Jimmie a chance to redeem!” Stay tuned to ESPN for updates.
