Bills sign QB from Canadian college to learn from Josh Allen after NFL Draft

Canadian QB Taylor Elgersma goes unselected at NFL Draft - Sportsnet.ca

The Buffalo Bills signed one of the most unusual undrafted free agents across the NFL.

Following the three days of the NFL Draft that concluded Saturday, Buffalo reached a minicamp invite agreement with Taylor Elgersma.

Elgersma is a quarterback who went to Wilfrid Laurier University, which is located in Ontario, Canada.

He has prototypical quarterback size at 6-foot-4, 216 pounds.

In 2024, Elgersma completed 74.5 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards, 20 TDs and nine interceptions.

Josh Allen's rise to greatness: Dr. Phil breaks down his success story

He won the equivalent of the Canadian Heisman Trophy.

Elgersma was invited to the Senior Bowl. He'll also have the chance to play in the CFL.

The talent of the Canadian right-hander is so intriguing that Buffalo and Green Bay actually both will bring him to their rookie minicamps, which have dates that don't overlap.

Obviously, Josh Allen and Jordan Love are both established stars for their teams. But there's never a bad reason to bring in another QB to look at.

There are very few out-of-nowhere quarterbacks that ever emerge in the NFL. Football isn't an international sport in the way baseball or basketball are.

Usually, these guys all follow the same path to get to the same places.

But Elgersma is different, and that makes his addition fun.

Can he get past a minicamp invite and do anything in an NFL career? It'll be tough.

But it's unlikely that he even got to this point, so there's always a chance for Elgersma.
