Eagles Cut 5 Players After Draft to Make Room for Rookies

Report: Eagles GM Howie Roseman is making calls about trading up in the first round - NBC Sports

Philadelphia, PA – April 27, 2025 – The Philadelphia Eagles trimmed their roster post-2025 NFL Draft, cutting five players to accommodate a 10-player rookie class, sources told ESPN’s Tim McManus. The moves clear space for new talent, aligning with Philly’s Super Bowl repeat bid.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Kylen Granson, Tristin McCollum, Darian Kinnard, and Britain Covey were released, per The Athletic. The cuts save $5.7 million in cap space, enabling GM Howie Roseman to integrate rookies like Jihaad Campbell and Andrew Mukuba.

Thompson-Robinson, a quarterback, faltered with a 55.2 PFF grade. Outshined by Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, and rookie Kyle McCord, his 1 million cap hit was expendable, per Spotrac. The move secures McCord’s QB3 role, per Bleeding Green Nation.

Granson, a tight end, managed 86 receptions over four years (PFF grade 62.3). With Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and rookie Harold Fannin Jr., his $1.5 million cap hit offered little value, freeing space for Fannin, per PhillyVoice.

McCollum, a safety, logged 12 tackles in two seasons (PFF grade 60.4). Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, Mukuba, and Xavier Watts outrank him, making his $1 million cap hit unnecessary, per NBC Sports Philadelphia. Mukuba and Watts bolster the secondary.

Kinnard, a guard/tackle, played 12 snaps in 2024 (PFF grade 58.9). Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Lane Johnson, and rookie Drew Kendall overshadow him. Cutting his $1 million cap hit aids rookie integration, per USA Today.

Covey, a wide receiver, contributed 126 yards in 2024 (PFF grade 62.1). A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, and rookie depth outpace him, justifying his $1.2 million cap hit release, per Bleeding Green Nation. The Eagles prioritize youth.

The cuts, saving $5.7 million, fuel Philly’s title chase against NFC East rivals like the Cowboys. Rookies Ty Robinson, Sai’Vion Jones, and Antwaun Powell-Ryland now have room to shine, cementing Roseman’s roster for another championship run.
