Eagles Bring Back Super Bowl Star DT to Fill Williams’ DT Void

Free-agent DT Ndamukong Suh unlikely to sign with next squad before training camp

Philadelphia, PA - April 20, 2025 - The Philadelphia Eagles have made a bold move to bolster their defensive line, signing veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal, marking a reunion with the Super Bowl LVII contributor. The signing, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, aims to fill the void left by Milton Williams, who joined the New England Patriots in free agency. Suh’s return strengthens a defensive front tasked with defending the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX title as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches.

Suh, 38, previously played for the Eagles in 2022, joining midseason and appearing in eight games. He recorded one sack, 10 tackles, and two quarterback hits, fortifying a run defense that propelled Philadelphia to Super Bowl LVII. A five-time Pro Bowler, Suh’s disruptive presence paired with Linval Joseph stabilized the line during injuries to Jordan Davis. His experience in high-stakes games, including a Super Bowl LV win with Tampa Bay (two sacks on Patrick Mahomes), makes him a valuable addition.

Milton Williams’ departure left a gap in our rotation,” GM Howie Roseman said. “Suh’s proven he can still dominate. He’s a perfect fit.”

The Miami Dolphins don't need Ndamukong Suh despite the recent visit

Williams, a 2021 third-round pick, was a key contributor in 2024, posting 5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and 7 tackles for loss, with 2 sacks in Super Bowl LIX. His exit, coupled with Josh Sweat’s move to Arizona, thinned the Eagles’ defensive line depth behind Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, who carries injury concerns (12-15 missed games since 2022). Suh, with a PFF run-defense grade of 68.9 in 2022, offers a proven stopgap.

Suh’s signing comes after a quiet 2023-2024, with visits to Miami and Baltimore yielding no deals. At 38, the former No. 2 overall pick (2010, Detroit) remains a physical force, boasting 71.5 career sacks and 130 tackles for loss across stints with the Lions, Dolphins, Rams, Buccaneers, and Eagles. “I’m back to chase another ring,” Suh told NFL Network.

The one-year, $3 million contract, per Schefter, fits Philadelphia’s $60 million cap space and allows flexibility to draft a defensive tackle like Walter Nolen (Ole Miss) with pick No. 32. Coach Nick Sirianni praised Suh’s intensity: “He’s a warrior who elevates everyone.”.

Suh’s return reunites him with Carter and Travon Walker, reinforcing the NFL’s No. 1 defense (17.8 points allowed per game in 2024). As the draft nears, the Eagles signal their all-in approach for another title run.
