The Dallas Cowboys need a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb. They could try to land one in the draft; however, a proven target may be on the trade block.
An anonymous general manager recently told NFL Insider Jordan Schultz that George Pickens is "more available than people think." Schultz also noted that multiple teams are interested in him.
"Sources: Multiple teams have brought up (Pittsburgh Steelers) WR George Pickens in trade discussions, and he’s a name to watch this week," Schultz wrote on X. "Pittsburgh isn’t actively shopping him, but the conversations have taken place. Pickens is entering the final year of his contract."
Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon tabbed the Cowboys as a potential suitor for Pickens. He proposed this potential package to bring the budding superstar to Dallas:
- Cowboys receive: George Pickens
- Steelers receive: 76th overall pick and KaVonte Turpin
Turpin just signed a three-year, $13.5 million extension with the Cowboys. However, he has made his biggest impact on special teams. He has six touchdowns from scrimmage in his career. However, he was an All-Pro in 2024 and has two Pro Bowl selections as a return man. Last season, he had one punt return touchdown and one kickoff return touchdown. He also led the league in kickoff return yards. Trading him would be a surprise after he was just extended. However, to acquire a player like Pickens, it may be worth it.
Pickens eclipsed 1,000 yards in 2023 and had 900 yards last season. He is going into the final year of his contract and has fallen victim to inconsistent quarterback play in Pittsburgh. The Steelers just gave DK Metcalf a $150 million extension, and may not want to pay Pickens after already committing so much to Metcalf.
Spotrac projects him to sign a four-year, $94 million deal in free agency. Jerry Jones has noted that the Dallas Cowboys are looking into two "substantive" trades that could happen at any time. Acquiring Pickens in exchange for their All-Pro returner would certainly fall into that "substantive" category. Pairing Pickens with Dak Prescott and Lamb could have an instant positive impact on the Cowboys' offense.
