Chiefs Left Tackle Feels Overlooked, Determined to Prove His Value

Chiefs' 2024 Breakout Player: Wanya Morris

Kansas City’s offense has no shortage of stars, but some of its most important work happens away from the cameras, deep in the trenches. Few know that better than one determined left tackle on the rise.

With the spotlight often focused on Patrick Mahomes or Isiah Pacheco, it’s easy to overlook the linemen who make the magic possible. The grind up front rarely generates highlight reels—just a steady push for respect and recognition.

Wanya Morris, entering his third year in Kansas City, understands what it means to be an “unsung hero.” Last season, he quietly stepped in for seven starts at left tackle, logging over 300 pass-pro snaps without allowing a single sack.

"I’m hungrier than ever, because I get the sense people forget who’s still protecting the blind side up front," Morris admitted after a physical camp session this week.

Coaches have lauded his reliability and technique, noting how Morris’s presence on the edge allowed Mahomes to operate with confidence. His run blocking also paved the way for another strong season from Pacheco and the Chiefs ground game.

Yet, with bigger names ahead of him in the headlines, Morris remains a quiet fixture in the lineup—often recognized more by his teammates than the broader NFL audience.

Still working under his rookie deal, the left tackle knows competition will only intensify as Kansas City reloads for another championship run. But those close to the team insist his role is only growing.

In a city that demands toughness and consistency, Morris is embracing his under-the-radar status—using it as fuel to prove he’s essential to everything the Chiefs build up front.

He doesn’t need the glory—just the respect he’s earned, one snap at a time, for Kansas City.
