A former lacrosse player from Syracuse finds his way to One Bills Drive
The Buffalo Bills continue adding defensive linemen to their offseason roster, with news late in the day on Friday, May 9 that One Bills Drive had placed a claim for defensive tackle Casey Rogers, formerly of the New York Giants. This signing leaves Buffalo with one remaining open on its roster ahead of mandatory minicamp.
Rogers was waived by the Giants early on Friday, with the Bills wasting no time in giving him a new landing spot. A high school lacrosse player for Westhill in Syracuse, NY, Rogers eventually changed his sport and commitment, leaving behind his stick and plan to attend Syracuse University for the gridiron offered by the University of Nebraska. With the Cornhuskers, Rogers played in 19 games, making 41 tackles (15 solo), six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two pass defenses.
After three seasons in Nebraska, Rogers entered the transfer protocol, landing with the University of Oregon for the final two years of his collegiate career. With the Ducks, Rogers played 27 games, making 56 tackles (20 solo), seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two pass defenses, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and returned one interception for a touchdown.

During the lead-up to the 2024 NFL Draft, Rogers posted decent measurables for a 6’4 3/8”, near-300-pound defensive tackle with 32” arms and 9” hands. His pro day saw Rogers post a sub-five-second (4.82) 40-yard dash, 1.75-second 10-yard split, 2.84-second 20-yard split, 4.51-second 20-yard shuttle, and 7.45-second three-cone drill; adding a vertical jump of 35”, broad jump of 9’8”, and putting up 25 reps on the bench press.
Rogers went undrafted in 2024, eventually signing with the Giants as an undrafted free agent. He was activated for two games but didn’t record a stat last season.
