San Francisco, CA – April 10, 2025, 02:33 AM PDT
Bryce Huff, recently traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the San Francisco 49ers, made a public plea for stability in a viral Instagram Live video.
“I need a job,” Huff said, his frustration evident after a tumultuous offseason that saw him move from a $51 million contract to a new team in just months.
Huff’s plea came after the Eagles traded him on April 6, 2025, to the 49ers for a 2025 fifth-round pick, following a disappointing 2024 season with only 2.5 sacks in 12 games.
The 27-year-old edge rusher, who signed a 3-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles in 2024, struggled to fit Vic Fangio’s system, playing just 225 defensive snaps before a wrist surgery sidelined him.
Once a breakout star with the Jets, where he recorded 10 sacks and a 21.8% pressure rate in 2023, Huff’s $7.5 million cap hit in 2025 has made teams hesitant to take a chance on him.
The 49ers, hoping to revive his career, plan to use him as a rotational pass rusher, but Huff’s plea suggests he’s still searching for a true “home” where he can reclaim his form.
Eagles fans on X were unsympathetic, with @EaglesNation posting, “Huff’s a bust—2.5 sacks for $51M? Good riddance!” while @PhillyFanatic added, “He never fit here—49ers can have him!”
Huff’s struggles highlight a broader challenge for high-priced free agents who fail to meet expectations, as teams grow wary of taking on big contracts for unproven production.
