The Buffalo Bills are looking to maximize their Super Bowl window with quarterback Josh Allen at the helm, but their running game has lacked the consistent punch needed to dominate in the postseason.
While James Cook has emerged as a reliable lead back, one Bills writer believes the team should double down on their backfield to give Allen an explosive, multifaceted weapon.

Bills insider Ryan Talbot of Syracuse.com proposes that Buffalo should pursue a trade for New York Jets running back Breece Hall, who racked up 1,359 yards from scrimmage across 16 games in 2024.
_“A backfield featuring Cook and Hall would give the Bills two dynamic rushers who are threats both running and receiving,” Talbot writes. “This versatility would create a potent ground attack and keep defenses guessing, whether it’s a run or a pass play based on personnel.”
Talbot notes that while the Bills could opt for a rookie running back in the 2025 NFL Draft to complement Cook, Hall represents a proven, immediate impact player. Recent comments from Jets coach Aaron Glenn suggest New York plans to increase touches for their other running backs, potentially reducing Hall’s role and making him available for trade.
_“The Bills would likely need to offer a package centered around a late Day 2 or Day 3 pick,” Talbot explains. “Hall’s proven production combined with relatively low trade compensation makes this an intriguing move for GM Brandon Beane.”
At 23 years old, Hall is significantly younger than Cook, who turns 26 in 2025, and could serve as a long-term cornerstone for Buffalo’s backfield. If the Bills were to extend Hall’s contract, the move would be even more appealing, ensuring stability and firepower for years to come.
Pairing Hall with Cook would give Josh Allen a dynamic duo capable of exploiting defenses on the ground and through the air, reducing the pressure on the passing game and creating balance for Sean McDermott’s offense. With Buffalo’s defense already addressing needs in the secondary and pass rush, a blockbuster move for Hall could be the final piece to push the Bills past AFC rivals like the Kansas City Chiefs.
