The Buffalo Bills have a head coach in Sean McDermott who is the definition of consistency. He’s one at least one playoff game in 5 straight seasons, but he has yet to get over the hump of making the Super Bowl.
With franchise quarterback Josh Allen locked under contract for the next 5+ years, this team needs to take every step they can to make the Super Bowl, and this could include firing Sean McDermott.
Here’s why McDermott should be on the hot seat in 2025, and why it’s realistic to believe he could be out after this season.
What It’d Take for Sean McDermott to be Gone
The Buffalo Bills have had 10+ wins in each of their past six seasons as well 13+ wins in 3 of those six.
Despite this regular season success, the Bills are at a crossroads because of the lack of getting over the hump.
We’ve seen NFL teams consistently get rid of coaches despite regular season success such as Doug Pederson in Philadelphia and Mike McCarthy in Dallas.
The Bills look primed to win the AFC East once again due to the incompetence of the Jets and Dolphins, but the patriots could be a sneaky team this season.
If Buffalo has a rough postseason losing to the Kansas City Chiefs or Cincinnati Bengals before the AFC Championship, McDermott needs to be gone, mainly for the sake of getting a shakeup in the coaching room.
