George Pickens was the top dog in the Steelers' wide receiver room entering this offseason.
That's no longer true, because Pittsburgh traded for DK Metcalf and gave him a huge contract extension.
That leaves Pickens seeking his own deal and playing second fiddle.
In another way of putting it, ESPN's Adam Schefter termed Pickens as "expendable."
Schefter's determination came as part of a draft intel story. The idea is that Pickens is a player whose name could come up as draft weekend approaches as part of a bigger deal involving some picks.
Pickens is still on his rookie contract, so if the Steelers don't want to pay him, someone else might.
Through three NFL seasons, Pickens has 174 catches for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns.
