Packers Trading for Former First Round Wide Receiver

Chicago's DJ Moore reveals the hardest hit he's received in his career - Athlon Sports

Green Bay, WI – May 4, 2025

The Chicago Bears’ surprising decision to draft Colston Loveland and Luther Burden in the 2025 NFL Draft has created a logjam at wide receiver, with Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, Burden, and Loveland all vying for targets. This surplus has fueled rumors of a potential trade involving Moore, a former first-round pick, and the Green Bay Packers emerge as an intriguing destination.

Marissa Myers of TWSN suggests the Packers could pursue Moore to bolster their passing attack. While Green Bay’s receiver corps, featuring Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and rookie Matthew Golden, is talented, Watson’s injury history and Romeo Doubs’ inconsistent 2024 season highlight the need for a reliable veteran. After a strong 2024 campaign, the Packers are in “win-now” mode, and adding Moore could elevate Jordan Love’s offense to new heights.

“The Packers don’t have an urgent need at receiver,” Myers writes, “but with $6.8 million in cap space and a thin depth chart behind their starters, a proven playmaker like Moore ensures they stay ahead of the curve in the NFC North.”

Green Bay’s draft additions, including Golden (Round 1) and Savion Williams (Round 3), signal a youth movement, but unproven talents like Dontayvion Wicks and seventh-rounder Jalen Coker leave room for a veteran presence. Moore, 28, posted 96 receptions for 966 yards in 2024 and 1,364 yards in 2023, offering the consistency Green Bay seeks. His long-term contract, with an AAV of $27.5 million (11th among receivers, per Over The Cap), fits the Packers’ financial flexibility, though his age makes him a short-term investment.

Acquiring Moore would give Green Bay a top-tier receiver trio of Watson, Reed, and Moore, arguably the NFL’s best. His route-running and yards-after-catch ability would thrive in Adam LaFleur’s scheme, complementing Josh Jacobs’ 1,112 rushing yards. The Packers’ history of bold moves, like signing Xavier Restrepo as a UDFA, supports their willingness to trade for a star like Moore.

However, the trade’s realism is questionable. Moore’s age and contract could deter Green Bay, who may prefer drafting younger talent or signing a cheaper free agent like Amari Cooper. Investing in a 28-year-old receiver risks long-term roster balance for a team building around Love’s prime.

While not the most likely scenario, Moore’s addition would supercharge Green Bay’s offense, making them formidable contenders in 2025. For now, the Packers may lean toward cost-effective options to address their receiver depth.
