GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers are closing in on a game-changing trade, targeting Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce as the 2025 NFL Draft looms, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter Tuesday. The blockbuster aims to supercharge Jordan Love’s offense after a lackluster 2024 left Green Bay yearning for a deep threat.
With Christian Watson sidelined by an ACL tear and Romeo Doubs locked in short routes, the Packers’ WR corps—Jayden Reed included—craved a true field-stretcher. GM Brian Gutekunst, chasing a Super Bowl, is poised to strike.
Green Bay’s nearing a deal to snag Pierce, a $9 million breakout star in his final rookie year (Spotrac). Talks heated up after Colts coach Shane Steichen signaled a heavier lean on Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs.
That left Pierce restless.
“Sky’s open, I’m ready to fly,” Pierce said.
In 2024, Pierce electrified—37 catches, 824 yards, 7 touchdowns, topping the NFL with 22.2 yards per reception (NFL.com). That dwarfs Reed’s 13.8 yards per catch, promising a vertical jolt for Green Bay’s 11th-ranked passing attack (230.7 yards/game, ESPN).
With Davante Adams a free-agent memory, Pierce could be Love’s missing spark, stretching defenses while Doubs works underneath. “Pierce to Green Bay? Love’s gonna feast!” one fan posted online.
The Colts, eyeing defensive grit after a 24.9% non-blitz pressure rate, seem open to trading Pierce for a 2025 third-round pick (No. 87). Gutekunst might push for a Pierce extension beyond 2025, securing a new WR1.
Draft day’s just over a week away—April 24 nears. With $47 million in cap space (Over The Cap), this near-finalized trade could propel Green Bay past their wild-card woes. Pierce’s speed might unlock Love’s 3,947-yard arm for a Super Bowl run.
