Kansas City Chiefs Trade for Key NFC East Edge Rusher

The NFC East has plenty of standout talent when it comes to the edge rusher position. This includes players like Micah Parsons, Nolan Smith, Brian Burns, Bryce Huff, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Huff and Parsons have already been frequently mentioned in trade talks this offseason, and now another edge listed is finding themselves in increased trade discussions as of late.

That edge rusher is Thibodeaux, and if the New York Giants do decide to move on from him, it is the Kansas City Chiefs that could end up having the greatest interest in negotiating a trade.

THIS IS A PREDICTION, NOT A REPORT

Kayvon Thibodeaux Trade to the Kansas City Chiefs

George Karlaftis has turned into a valuable player for the Chiefs’ defensive line, but the edge position lacks a true standout talent to play opposite of him. Mike Danna has played good, but not at a game changing level. As the Chiefs look to rebound from their Super Bowl loss, making a splash trade for help at edge is the way to go, and Thibodeaux can be a great fit.

Why the New York Giants will Trade Kayvon Thibodeaux

The New York Giants are coming off a 3-14 season and have numerous decisions to make this offseason. One of those decisions surrounds Thibodeaux’s future as he is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and could have his fifth-option picked up. If they do that, it would cost $16 million, and with a roster full of needs, that may not be ideal considering they are in a spot to potentially draft Abdul Carter.

The Giants already extended Brian Burns, so if they do draft Carter, it would signal that Thibodeaux is no longer needed in New York, and they would trade him to give him a fresh start to avoid any drama.

Kayvon Thibodeaux is Ideal for the Kansas City Chiefs

On the Chiefs, Thibodeaux would enter a winning culture where he can continue to develop at the NFL level better. With accumulating 126 pressures and 23 sacks across three seasons so far, the glimpses of potential have been there with Thibodeaux.

At just 24 years old, Thibodeaux can become a staple on the Chiefs’ defensive line for seasons to come. With his explosiveness, athleticism, and active hands to get past offensive linemen, he would be ideal to help the Chiefs when facing top offenses. Steve Spagnuolo would be able to unlock new plays with the addition of Thibodeaux, and a duo of Karlaftis and Thibodeaux together would transform the defensive line.
