Kansas City, MO – May 16, 2025

Amazon MGM Studios dropped a bombshell Friday, announcing Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix will portray Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt in the Andy Reid biopic Dynasty. Denzel Washington will star as the iconic coach, with the film set for a 2026 release.

Phoenix, 50, brings intensity to Hunt, the visionary who shaped the Chiefs and coined “Super Bowl.” Washington, 70, embodies Reid’s commanding presence, guiding Kansas City to three Super Bowl titles. “This cast is electric,” director David O. Russell said, per sources.

The film traces Reid’s journey from Philadelphia to Chiefs glory, spotlighting Hunt’s legacy. With Patrick Mahomes’ attack—bolstered by Travis Kelce’s pay cut and Amari Cooper’s signing—facing 2025, the timing couldn’t be hotter. “It’s Chiefs history on screen,” GM Brett Veach noted.

The Chiefs’ draft—Josh Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott, Ashton Gillotte, Nohl Williams, Jalen Royals, Jeffrey Bassa, and Brashard Smith—signals a youth surge, but Dynasty celebrates the Hunt-Reid era. Filming begins in Atlanta this summer, promising a deep dive into Kansas City’s heart.

Chiefs Kingdom erupted with hype. As the team eyes a 2025 Super Bowl, Phoenix and Washington’s star power fuels excitement, immortalizing Hunt and Reid’s legacy in cinematic gold.
