Buffalo, NY – June 12, 2025: The Buffalo Bills are hosting tryouts at their mandatory minicamp, with former University of Texas at El Paso wide receiver Kelly Akharaiyi, who racked up 1,033 yards in 2023, leading the pack, sources told ESPN.
The Bills invited several players to their rookie minicamp last month, signing three undrafted free agents. As mandatory minicamp kicks off, seven new players are vying for a roster spot, headlined by Akharaiyi.
Akharaiyi, 27, caught 48 passes for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns at UTEP in 2023 before transferring to Mississippi State, per Sporting News. Signed as a UDFA by Buffalo, he was waived on May 10, per Buffalo Rumblings.
At 6-foot-1 with a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, Akharaiyi seeks a training camp shot. His deep-threat ability could complement Josh Allen’s offense, which lacks speed post-Stefon Diggs, per Democrat and Chronicle.
Here are the six other tryout players at Bills’ minicamp:
-
Cam Lockridge, DB, Fresno State
-
Elijah Alston, EDGE, Marshall
-
Levi Rogers, C, Stanford
-
Mason Napper, LS, Miami
-
Demaje Yancey, CB, Troy
-
Noah Martin, LB, Samford
Lockridge, a 2024 All-Mountain West honorable mention, has versatility at safety and corner, per Fresno State Athletics. He’s among those eyeing a practice squad spot, per X (@RyanTalbotBills).
Bills Mafia buzzed on X: “Akharaiyi’s speed? Sign him!” (@BillsMafiaFan). With $5.2 million in cap space, Buffalo’s tryouts signal a push for depth, per Spotrac, as they chase a 2025 Super Bowl.
As minicamp unfolds, Akharaiyi’s big-play potential could earn him a roster nod. Will he shine in Orchard Park? Stay tuned to ESPN for updates on this dynamic tryout group!
