Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has requested a contract restructure to reduce his $12 million cap hit in 2025, aiming to stay with the team amid trade rumors, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
However, GM Howie Roseman’s response left both Goedert and Eagles fans in awe, showcasing his commitment to keeping the veteran star while securing the team’s financial future.
Goedert, 30, is in the final year of a 4-year, $57 million deal, with no guaranteed money remaining. Despite a 2024 season where he recorded 42 catches for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns—plus 215 playoff yards in the Super Bowl LIX run—his 7 missed games due to injury and trade speculation with teams like the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints fueled uncertainty.
Seeking to stay in Philly, Goedert proposed converting part of his base salary into a signing bonus, spreading the cap hit over future years to ease the team’s $18.125 million cap space burden.
Roseman, known for his cap management wizardry, not only agreed but went further, restructuring Goedert’s deal into a 3-year, $36 million extension with $20 million guaranteed, lowering his 2025 cap hit to $8 million. “Dallas is a cornerstone of this team—his leadership and playmaking are invaluable,” Roseman told reporters, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “We’re building for another title, and he’s a big part of that.”
Goedert, visibly moved, said, “I’m blown away by Howie’s trust in me—I’m an Eagle for life.” Fans on X echoed the sentiment. “Howie’s a genius! Keeping Goedert at $8M cap hit is a steal!” posted @EaglesNation. Another wrote, “Roseman’s the best GM in the game—Goedert stays, and we’re ready to repeat!” (@PhillyFanatic). With Goedert locked in, the Eagles are poised to chase another Super Bowl in 2025.
