Kansas City, MO – May 4, 2025
The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their secondary Friday, signing former New York Jets safety Chuck Clark to a one-year, $2 million deal. The 30-year-old veteran, with 384 career tackles, arrives to solidify Kansas City’s defense after a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Clark, a 2017 sixth-round pick, started 23 games for the Ravens from 2019 to 2022, snagging five interceptions and 3.5 sacks. Despite missing 2023 with a torn ACL and five 2024 games due to a torn pectoral, he recorded 69 tackles and a sack in 12 games last season. “Chuck’s a warrior,” coach Andy Reid said.
The Chiefs needed depth after losing Justin Reid to the Saints. Clark joins Bryan Cook and Jaden Hicks, adding grit to a secondary that allowed 4,012 passing yards in 2024. His versatility as a box safety and nickel hybrid strengthens Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme alongside Trent McDuffie and Nohl Williams.
Kansas City absorbed Clark’s $2 million cap hit with $12.7 million in cap space, fueled by cuts to Mike Danna and Nikko Remigio. The Chiefs, having drafted Josh Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott, Ashton Gillotte, Nohl Williams, Jalen Royals, Jeffrey Bassa, and Brashard Smith, prioritized veteran presence to counter pass-heavy offenses.
GM Brett Veach called Clark “our spark.” With two remaining picks, including No. 226, Kansas City eyes receiver depth to replace DeAndre Hopkins. Clark’s signing, a savvy bargain, ignites Chiefs Kingdom’s 2025 Super Bowl dreams. His battle-tested experience promises to fortify a defense ready to propel Mahomes’ juggernaut back to the AFC’s peak.
