Chiefs Star Signs Massive Deal, Then Vows: ‘Every Finger’s Getting a Ring’

ESPN makes smart suggestion for the Chiefs and former Tennessee Vols OL Trey Smith

Kansas City, MO – July 15, 2025 — The Kansas City Chiefs just locked down one of their most dominant trench warriors — and he’s already thinking dynasty. Fresh off a record-shattering extension, the team’s starting right guard made it clear: he’s not done collecting hardware.

Trey Smith, a former sixth-round pick who’s become one of the most respected linemen in football, has signed a four-year, $94 million extension with $70 million guaranteed — making him the highest-paid guard in NFL history. It’s a stunning rise for a player once overlooked by every team in the league.

"I play this game for the money — no doubt about it. But I’m going to prove I’m worth every penny. I’m planning to fill every finger with rings — with the Chiefs," Smith said shortly after the deal was announced.

Smith already owns two Super Bowl rings, having started every game in both Super Bowl LVII (win over the Eagles) and Super Bowl LVIII (win over the 49ers). Known for his power, durability, and elite pass protection, Smith hasn’t missed a single start since entering the league in 2021.

Though Kansas City fell short in Super Bowl LIX this past February — losing to Philadelphia in a 40–22 defeat — Smith’s performance remained steady. He was one of the few bright spots on a line that faced relentless pressure and scrutiny after the game.

Inside the locker room, teammates call him “the enforcer”. Coaches rave about his leadership, consistency, and humility. Off the field, Smith is known for his blue-collar work ethic and love for Kansas City. But make no mistake — he’s still hungry.

The extension not only rewards Smith for past dominance but locks in a core piece of the offensive line during Patrick Mahomes’ championship window. For the Chiefs, it’s a long-term investment in protection, power, and postseason experience.

Now the mission is clear: Smith wants more than respect. He wants rings — all of them. And with his contract secure and his mindset sharper than ever, don’t be surprised if the Chiefs keep finding themselves back in February — with No. 65 leading the charge.
