Buffalo, NY – May 3, 2025
The Buffalo Bills finalized their 2025 roster, with undrafted free agent Jacob Bayer earning a spot after a standout rookie minicamp, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Arkansas State offensive lineman bolsters Josh Allen’s protection, securing a role as Brandon Beane shapes a Super Bowl contender.
Bayer, a 6’3”, 315-pound center, impressed with his technique and toughness at minicamp, outshining competitors. With James Cook’s $15 million contract dispute unresolved, Beane’s $5.3 million cap, boosted by $7.3 million from cuts like Dane Jackson, welcomed Bayer as a cost-effective depth piece.
“Bayer’s grit is undeniable,” Beane told The Buffalo News’ Ryan O’Halloran. “He strengthens Allen’s line.”
A four-year starter at Arkansas State, Bayer earned a 5.82 NFL.com grade, projecting as a backup center or special teamer. His minicamp dominance, praised for snapping precision and mobility, filled the void left by Mitch Morse’s 2024 exit. Bayer now backs up Connor McGovern, edging out Sedrick Van Pran-Granger.
The Bills’ 2025 draft prioritized defense, selecting only Kaden Prather at receiver. Bayer, one of 11 UDFAs, joins a line with Dion Dawkins and O’Cyrus Torrence, protecting Allen’s 4,306-yard offense. His special teams versatility ensures stability for Cook’s 1,086-yard rushing attack against foes like the Chiefs.
“He’s a roster steal,” said NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks. “Bayer safeguards Allen’s title run.”
