Bills Poised for Day 2 Blockbuster with Browns to Nab Elite Cornerback

The Buffalo Bills could shake up Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft with a blockbuster trade, eyeing Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron at pick No. 36 from the Cleveland Browns. As Josh Allen’s squad chases a Super Bowl, Brandon Beane might pull the trigger to bolster the secondary.

The proposed deal would see the Bills send picks No. 56, 109, 173, and a 2026 third-rounder to Cleveland for No. 36. The Browns, loaded with picks after trading for Travis Hunter on Day 1, could trade down to stockpile assets.

“Barron could transform Buffalo’s defense,” said NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks. “This trade would signal Beane’s all-in mentality.”

James Cook’s contract saga, with his $15 million demand unmet by Beane’s $12 million offer, sparked trade rumors, amplified by his Orchard Park home sale. Yet, Beane’s focus on defense suggests confidence in retaining Cook while addressing the Bills’ 31st-ranked pass defense (42.9 PFF coverage grade).

“We’re exploring bold moves,” Beane told The Buffalo News’ Ryan O’Halloran. “A player like Barron elevates Allen’s championship odds.”

Barron’s 4.28-second 40-yard dash and five interceptions in 2023 make him a versatile CB2, thriving in press-man and zone coverages alongside Christian Benford. His speed and ball skills could neutralize threats like Patrick Mahomes in Sean McDermott’s scheme.

With $5.3 million in cap space, the Bills would retain pick No. 62 to target a receiver like Isaiah Bond. Beane’s offseason signings—Justin Simmons, Tre’Davious White, Treylon Burks—mirror the draft-day aggression seen in Jacksonville’s Hunter trade.

As Day 2 looms, Beane could cement the Bills as contenders with Barron. Will this blockbuster unfold? Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp for updates.
