Buffalo, NY – May 15, 2025
The Buffalo Bills have brought back a fan favorite, signing safety Jordan Poyer to a one-year, $2 million deal, sources told ESPN. The 34-year-old, who spent seven stellar seasons with the Bills, fulfills his dream to “retire a Bill” after a challenging 2024 with the Dolphins.
Poyer, a Bills legend from 2017 to 2023, started all 107 games during his tenure, amassing 22 interceptions and 803 tackles. His veteran presence helped the Bills reach the playoffs five straight years, cementing his status as a Bills Mafia icon.
"I’m home where I belong,” Poyer told The Buffalo News’ Ryan O’Halloran. “I’ll retire a Bill, and that means everything to me.”
The move comes after Poyer’s difficult 2024 season with Miami, where he recorded 66 tackles and one interception in 15 games, a far cry from his Pro Bowl form in 2017. Cultural and schematic differences in Miami left him yearning for Buffalo’s embrace.
Bills GM Brandon Beane saw an opportunity to bolster a secondary that struggled in 2024, ranking 24th in coverage. With Damar Hamlin and Darrick Forrest as current safeties, Poyer’s experience and leadership fill a critical gap left by the departures of Micah Hyde and Rasul Douglas.
Poyer’s return adds emotional weight for Bills Mafia, who watched the Bills fall to the Chiefs in the 2024 AFC Championship. With Josh Allen’s 4,306-yard MVP season and James Cook’s 1,086-yard rushing, Buffalo aims for its first Super Bowl title in 2025.
"Jordan’s a warrior who knows our system,” said Brandon Beane. “He’s here to help us win it all.”
As the Bills prepare for a pivotal home clash with the Chiefs, Poyer’s reunion could galvanize the team. His journey back to Buffalo ensures a storybook ending for a beloved legend, with a championship still in sight.
