With James Cook’s future uncertain, the Buffalo Bills are exploring a blockbuster trade to land Travis Etienne, a $32 million star from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The move could supercharge Josh Allen’s offense as Buffalo aims for a Super Bowl in 2025.
The Jaguars, holding the fifth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, may select Ashton Jeanty, a dynamic Boise State running back. If Jeanty joins Jacksonville, Etienne could become expendable, especially after Tank Bigsby reduced his 2024 workload.
“Drafting Jeanty makes Etienne a trade target,” said FanSided’s John Buhler. “Buffalo should act fast to secure a playmaker for their title push.”
Etienne, playing on his fifth-year option in 2025, is projected for a four-year, $32 million deal in free agency. His consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons (2022-2023) and 1,400+ scrimmage yards highlight his dual-threat fit for Joe Brady’s RPO-driven scheme.
Cook, a two-time Pro Bowler, led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 but is frustrated by stalled talks for a $15 million annual extension. His sale of his Orchard Park home fuels trade rumors, prompting Brandon Beane to consider alternatives.
“Etienne’s explosiveness suits Buffalo,” said NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks. “He’s a seamless replacement if Cook bolts.”
With $5.3 million in cap space, the Buffalo Bills could offer a mid-round pick for Etienne, pairing him with Ray Davis and Ty Johnson. Trading Cook could fetch a higher pick, easing financial strain. Beane’s offseason additions, like Justin Simmons and Treylon Burks, reflect a win-now approach.
